Acrylic painting is a type of art medium that has more pigments and dries faster than usual cheap paint. On this painting, I used many tints for highlights and shades for shadows of each color to form the details of the background and the bear. In the beginning of the process, my proportions were off and made the bear look odd, but after I realized that, I made the head bigger and the body thinner in order to proportion it better.
For this piece, I wanted to turn something fictional into something realistic. I didn't know which cartoon character I wanted to use until I looked at my phone background (a picture of Winnie-the-Pooh), and it inspired me to create a real life version of him. |
The main part that I had to slightly improvise on was the color of the fur since Winnie is yellow and my reference bear photo was brown, so I tried ways to add in yellow highlights. I think that the majority of the piece turned out pretty well except for a few details here and there. I've learned how to layer colors and make little details that contributes to the whole piece. I have also learned how to paint from background to foreground and how to mix colors to get the right shade. |
From these warm-ups, I learned how to mix colors and practiced how to do different textures. For my painting, I would say that the making brown and fur texture helped me the most since I had to draw fur on the brown bear. I learned the most from the textures since that there's different techniques on each type and I could use it to my advantage. In order to make brown, the colors opposite of each other on the color wheel are mixed together. Toning down a color requires both black and white mixed into the color |
